Down in the Swiss Alps, there’s a village sitting beneath a mountain that is literally falling apart. Isn’t that fun. For over a century, Brienz/Brinzauls lived with the knowledge that the slopes above them were unstable. Then, in 2023, the mountain suddenly accelerated – forcing the evacuation of the entire village as millions of tonnes of rock began sliding toward it. But this story is far stranger than a simple landslide, it’s a massive mess that is sort of scary and happy at the same time. So I went to Switzerland to see it for myself.
